Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there any prep work I should do before you come out to seal?
A: Normally no. We make every effort to sufficiently clean your driveway’s surface of leaves, stones,  twigs, loose debris etc. prior to spray application. However, if your driveway has been subject to a lot of mud that has now dried on, it would be to your benefit to power wash it prior to sealing.

Q: How long should I stay off my freshly sealed driveway before using it?
A: Under normal conditions 24 hours is sufficient.

Q: Do you barricade the driveway entrance to prevent accidental use during dry-time?
A: Yes, we place wooden stakes on both sides of the driveway and string yellow banner tape across the opening to prevent this from happening.

Q: How often should I have my driveway sealed?
A: I normally recommend  about every three  years. Some of my customers do it annually for beautification purposes. With our product you can do this; however, sealing your driveway annually with coal tar will escalate surface cracking. (Click the Our Sealant tab for more on this subject.)

Q: If coal tar sealant can harm my driveway why do so many seal-coating companies use it?
A: Because it’s a lot cheaper since it can contain up to 50 percent water. (Again, it’s a waste product of the coking industry.) In my opinion the use of this product on residential driveways is one of the biggest frauds I know of that is consistanly perpetrated upon homeowners.
